Collision Insurance

When you are deemed “at fault” in an automobile accident, collision insurance coverage helps pay for damages to your car. The coverage will likely include a deductible—the amount you pay toward repairs before collision insurance kicks in.

Comprehensive Coverage

Comprehensive insurance covers damages to your vehicle caused by any unknown party or “act of God.” This includes damages caused by vandalism, theft, flood, hurricane, windshield damage, and fire. Like collision coverage, comprehensive insurance will cover the cost of repairs up to the fair market value of your car. It’s not required by law to possess comprehensive coverage. But you will probably need it if your vehicle is financed.
